The Top 7

The top 7 runners on a cross country team are important as the major end of the season races (in the case of middle school that means Sectionals and State) are only open to the top 7 runners on each team. The top 7 runners are determined almost entirely based on times in meets. For the first week of practice we only have the time trial to go by so the runners are listed in order with the fastest runner first. Later in the season other considerations may sway our decision when picking the top 7 runners such as effort in practices or someone who is "peaking" at the right time, but for now it is based strictly on time. Only 20% of our team will be in the top 7 when the season ends so we encourage our athletes to work hard and do their best even if they ultimately don't make it to the top 7. Everyone who works hard sees faster times so there is still a lot to accomplish even if you aren't in the top 7. In the lists below we also list the three runners who are just outside the top 7. Without further ado:

Practice Note:

• Practices this week will be from 7:30am to 9am, including Saturday's practice at Harris Forest Preserve.
• Monday, Tuesday, and Wedneday of next week practice will be from 3:30pm to 5pm.
• Starting Thursday of next week we will start our normal practice schedule from 2:45pm to 4:15pm.
