Our first year at the Parkside Invite couldn't have gone much better. With 53 teams and most of last year's 3A top five teams in attendance this was the most competitive meet we will participate in until State, and the Troy Invite next weekend is no slouch in terms of competition.
Varsity Girls
Individual Results - Team Results
The girls started out the day strong with Helena Kleronomos once more leading the team. She was the only medal winner for the varsity girls with her eighth-place finish in 12:15. Her time was the third fastest we've ever seen by a Yorkville seventh grader, and the two times that were faster than hers were both run at State. Sporting brand-new spikes Hailey Simmons and Sara Klemm finished next for the team. Hailey just missed a medal in 26th place with a time of 12:45 and Sara was 34th in 12:55. Jazmin was the first eighth grader to finish with her time of 12:58 in 42nd place followed by seventh grader Nikki Vergara (48th, 13:02) to finish out the scoring for the team. Samantha Moreno (50th, 13:08) and Hannah Wolf (181st, 14:32) were the remaining runners for the team, which finished one place away from a trophy in fourth with 155 points. All seven girls ran personal records. The top 3 teams were Dunlap Middle School with 61 points (5th in 2A State last year), Parkside with 123 points (7th in 3A State last year), and Tolono Unity with 138 points (3rd in 2A State last year).
Varsity Boys
Individual Results - Team Results
The boys had high expectations going into the race, and they didn't disappoint with a second place finish in an incredibly close race. They only lost to last year's state champ, Chatham Glenwood, and the margin was only 5 points, which is nothing in a race of this size. Brett Rhodes continued to establish himself as the team's top runner by running 11:11 to earn a medal in ninth place. Yorkville's next four all finished as a pack, but Tyler Jensen was the only one with a medal when he finished in 23rd with a time of 11:26. Austin Hunter (27th, 11:27), Ivan Westcott (28th, 11:29), and Austin Popplewell (29th, 11:34) were steps away from Tyler. Ivan's time was the sixth fastest time ever for a seventh grader at YMS, and Austin Popplewell's time was the tenth fastest. Kyle DiVerde (53rd, 11:57) and Mark Mattson (56th, 11:58) helped the team run the fastest average time in the field with an average time of 11:25.
Open Girls
Mady Klebenow was the only girl to earn a medal in the open race with her time of 13:57 in 23rd place. There were plenty of personal records, though. Alex Badus (15:28), Alex Meyers (14:59), Alexis Nelson (14:20), Anna Titus (15:30), Isabella Franz (14:18), Jinnaea Richardson (14:00), Kara Mangione (17:55), Katie Stabile (17:22), Kaylyn Dotson (19:56), Lauren Bell (14:52), London Bennet (16:34), Madison Grandys (15:32), Maggie Krider (16:23), Natalee Penland (15:03), Paige Green (14:28), Paige Loos (15:34), R'Moni Young (18:20), Sarah Pankow (15:29), Tayhler Srachta (14:47), and Tori Cavey (14:58) all set P.R.'s during the open race. Great job, ladies!
Open Boys
The boys in the open race showed off the incredible depth of our team by taking ten of the 25 medals in the race.
