5th and 6th Grade Cross Country
April 22, 2014
At the school board meeting on Monday, April 21, the Yorkville school board approved this proposal for a fifth and sixth grade intramural cross country program starting in the fall. The high school and middle school cross country programs have been trying to get an elementary program approved for years, and we are ecstatic that fifth and sixth grade runners who participate in Endurance Camp will also have a cross country program they can run with in the fall.
Each of the four elementary schools will have their own coach and the intramural programs will start practice at the beginning of the school year and end at the same time as the middle school program with the Fox Trot Invite at Yorkville High School. Fifth and sixth grade runners will have the opportunity to run in the open race at the Fox Trot Invite to end their season.
We would like to thank the Yorkville school board for approving the intramural program. We would also like to thank superintendent Tim Shimp for working with us on this proposal and remaining open to the idea throughout the process. The elementary school principals, Dave Ascolani, Steve Bjork, Steve Megazzini and Dave Taylor, also deserve thanks for supporting this proposal to add a cross country program to their schools.
Finally, we would especially like to thank Yorkville Middle School athletic director Jeff Perzee. Mr. Perzee has been a huge supporter of cross country since he started working at the middle school last school year. He understood our need for an elementary school program and worked hard on our behalf to make it happen.
Feel free to contact any of the people above who helped make the cross country elementary program a reality. We are excited to add fifth and sixth grade runners to our cross country family this upcoming season.
