IHSA State Track Meet

May 29, 2011

The IHSA State Track Meet just finished up with the boys running this past weekend. Both the boys and girls, especially on the distance side, had a great deal of success.

Chris Kellogg (Katy's brother) ran a 4:45 mile in the State preliminary race and Matt Anzelc threw 46"5.5' in the preliminary round of the shot put to just miss moving on to finals.

Eric Baker and former YMS cross country runner Zak Arcara ran in the finals of the 3200m run (2-mile) with Eric running the race in 9:46.75 and Zak running 10:04.38.

The boys 4x800m relay team was the highlight of the meet as the team of Scott King, Kyle Dhuse, Chris Kellogg, and Jake Callahan nearly came away with the victory by finishing only a second behind Belvidere North. The boys' time of 7:51.76 was a great finish to their season.

On the girls side Leena Palmer ran a 2:29.57 in the preliminaries of the 800m run and Casey Kramer ran 5:31.94 in the mile. A young 4x400m team of Kelsey Leedy, Bri Stuepfert (Brook's sister), Hunter Rennels, and Tracy Krukowski ran a time of 4:15.64 in the preliminaries of that relay.

Ali Hester (Thor's sister) earned All-State honors in the mile with a time of 5:10.24 to earn 5th place. Esther Bell ran a time of 11:43 in the 3200m run. Bri Stuepfert qualified for the 3200m as well, but chose to concentrate on her relay events.

The highlight of the girl's meet also came from the 4x800m relay team. The team of Bri Stuepfert, Leena Palmer, Ali Hester, and Esther Bell ran a state-record time of 9:17.32. Not only did they beat the state record by over 5 seconds, they crushed the second-place team by over 10 seconds.

Congratulations to all of the state athletes from the Yorkville high school and middle school teams!

Cross country starts on August 1 and goes through October 8 for runners who don't qualify for State. The State qualifiers will have an extra week. Of course, Endurance Camp is highly recommended over the summer even though it isn't officially practice.
