Yorkville Middle School Cross Country

A Note from Coach Miller

June 26, 2019

I think most people know this now, but back in May I accepted a job teaching at Naperville Central High School, which obviously means I had to resign from my position as head cross country coach at Yorkville Middle School. This was one of the most difficult decisions in my life as I have been the only head coach in YMS history and cross country was one of the things I thought I would never give up. While I do hope to coach cross country again at some point in Naperville, for the first time in 11 years I won't be coaching in the fall.

On the first day of Endurance Camp this summer, I talked to the eighth grade runners who I coached last year about my decision. It was a bittersweet moment (there have been a lot of those over the past two months), and I hope all of my runners realize that this decision had nothing to do with them. In fact, leaving YMS cross country was what made this decision more difficult than anything. I plan to stop by a few meets this year and my wife still works at Bristol Bay so I'll still be around.

On Monday, Coach Austin was officially named the head coach for Yorkville Middle School cross country. The program is in capable hands as Coach Black, who has been a volunteer for cross country and track the past two years, took Coach Austin's place as an assistant coach. There will obviously be changes this year as Coach Austin will lead the program as he sees best, but Coach Austin cares about the team as much as anyone and I anticipate great things under his tenure.

Thanks for a great 11 years, YMS cross country.
