Tiger Trails Results

For the second year in a row Yorkville was the overall champion of the Tiger Trails Invite at Thompson in Oswego! This is due to 2nd place finishes in the 7th grade boys, 8th grade boys, and 8th grade girls races, 3rd and 7th place finishes in the 6th grade boys and girls races, respectively, and a 1st place finish in the 7th grade girls race. Below is how the individual races went down.
7th Grade Girls
The 7th grade girls were the only team projected to win their race and they did not disappoint. Alex Stewart took control of the race from the start and steadily built her lead throughout the race. She ended up winning in a team-record time of 12:26. Alexis Wasserberg did her best to break up a pack of two Herget runners and a runner from Parker, but ultimately she couldn't beat them and finished in 5th place with a time of 12:44. Makenna Edwards had a great second half to catch up to Katlyn Schraeder and run a P.R. Makenna and Katlyn both finished with medals in 8th and 9th place, respectively, with times of 13:01 and 13:02. Gabi Mays was the team's 5th runner in 13th place with a time of 13:33. The Foxes ended up with a final score of 35 to second-place Herget's 64. Emma Jasutis and Julia Hupp were key runners who ended up beating many of Herget's top five runners. Emma finished in 15th place with a time of 13:36 and Julia finished 18th with a P.R. of 13:38.
7th Grade Boys
Full ResultsThe boys were projected to be in the hunt for a trophy at Tiger Trails, but were also in danger of not earning a trophy. It would have been the first time a Yorkville Middle School team hadn't earned a trophy at Tiger Trails since 2010. The 7th grade boys stepped up big time, though, and finished second to Homer by only 10 points. Coby Allen led the race for the first half, but lost some steam in the second half. He still finished with a P.R. of 11:43 and out-kicked a runner from Plank to take 3rd place as our only medal winner in the race. This race was the definition of a team win, though, as everyone stepped up big time. Josh Pugh broke 12 minutes for the first time with his P.R. of 11:54 in 11th place. Nick Childs also broke 12 for the first time to finish in 13th with a time of 11:58. Zach Russo (incorrectly listed as Mitchell McCarty in the official results) finished in 16th place with a P.R. of 12:02. Tyler Aters was the team's final scorer with his P.R. of 12:23 in 27th place. Paul Emmert and Aaron Wynn both had P.R.'s of 12:34 and 12:50 to finish in 32nd and 40th places, respectively. The 7th grade boys were the only group whose top seven all ran personal records.
8th Grade Girls
Full ResultsThe 8th grade girls went into their race knowing they were probably fighting for second place since Herget will probably be fighting for 1st place at State with Minooka in a few weeks. The girls, though, will be fighting for a state trophy as well and they finished in second by a wide margin over Bednarcik. The girls ran a great team race with Sydney Peterson the only medal winner with a time of 12:10 in 3rd place. Ava Glenn made a great push in the second half and finished under 13 minutes for the first time this season with a time of 12:53 in 12th place. Anna Hunter and Brooke O'Carroll worked together to finish in 15th and 16th place with times of 13:00 and 13:01, respectively. The team's fifth runner was Renee Niles who had a fantastic second half of her race to gain a lot of ground and finish with a P.R. of 13:21 in 18th place. Maggie Hunter finished sixth for the team with a time of 13:31 in 19th place and Nuria Pugh was the seventh runner with a time of 13:42 in 22nd.
8th Grade Boys
The boys had lost once this year going into Tiger Trails and that was to Herget at the Troy Invite. The boys closed the gap a little with Herget at Tiger Trails, but finished just one point short of a victory. The boys dominated the race, though, with eight runners finishing before Herget's fourth and fifth runners. In cross country, though, you only count seven runners for scoring so our eighth runner, Nathan Summers, did not count despite running a great time of 11:47. Jack Stillmunkes and Brody Ferko ran together the entire race and finished in 5th and 6th place with times of 11:23 and 11:24, respectively. After Jack and Brody came "The Pack"™. Jaydon Harvey (11:36, 7th), Nick Sinopoli (11:36, 8th), Nicholas Clever (11:36, 9th), Owen Lindstrand (11:37, 10th), and Josiah Gulbro (11:42, 11th) all finished together and dominated the medal stand. While it wasn't enough to win the race, this type of pack running will go a long way to helping the team earn a trophy at State in three weeks.
