Two More State Trophies for Yorkville
November 10, 2015
The Yorkville High School cross country team ran at the IHSA State finals this past weekend. For the fourth year in a row the boys won a State trophy and the girls won a trophy for the seventh year in a row. The past five years have been State championships for the girls.
Former YMSXC runner Zack Price led the way for the boys and was the third fastest sophomore in the 2A race. Zack ran a 15:11 three-mile time to finish in 28th place. Senior Trevor Wills finished in 32nd with a time of 15:19. Other than Trevor, the entire top seven for the boys were former YMSXC runners. Senior Cody Hornyak finished 36th in 15:23, junior Alexx Nauman was 58th in 15:41, senior Jake Firrantello was 65th in 15:46, sophomore Patrick Black was 95th in 15:59, and senior Thor Hester was 99th in 16:01. The team's 35 second 1-5 split was the second best split in the race and was good enough to earn the team a third place trophy.
On the girls side, former YMSXC runner and junior Alexis Grandys finished in 3rd overall with a time of 17:01. Joining her for All-State honors were former YMSXC runner Maddie Dearborn (junior, 10th, 17:35), former YMSXC runner Alyssa Edwards (sophomore, 13th, 17:38) and Summer Pierson (15th, 17:42). Freshman Nicole Greyer finished in 32nd with a time of 18:08 followed by former YMSXC runner Maggie Klemm in 41st with a time of 18:14. Freshman and former YMSXC runner Olivia Borowiak finished things for Yorkville's girls with a 95th place finish in 18:53. The girls scored 58 points to win their fifth straight State championship.
Both teams will be competing in the Nike Cross Midwest Regional this Sunday in Terre Haute, Indiana for a chance to compete in nationals.
