Patrick Black: IESA Scholar Attitude Nominee
February 8, 2014
The IESA Scholar Attitude Award was started in 1999 to recognize the best student-athletes in the IESA. Yorkville Middle School has, for the past three years, seen the school's nominee go on to win one of the 15 awards given out each year so being nominated is quite an honor. Two out of the three winners Yorkville has seen were also members of the cross country team, so we have a tradition of having great student leaders as a part of our cross country family.
Patrick Black wasn't even cross country's official nominee. We nominated Lindsay Harrison, but Patrick, as well as Kimberly Batdorf, were nominated by coaches from other sports. It just goes to show that we have a lot of great leaders on our team. All of the YMS coaches ranked the nominees, and in the closest vote we've seen at YMS, Patrick won the nomination by two votes.
Patrick will have to answer a number of questions about himself that he will submit to the IESA along with an essay on sportsmanship. The IESA will also look at his grades at YMS and judge everything to determine if he will be one of the 15 winners. We should find out sometime next month whether or not Patrick is one of the winners.
