Yorkville Middle School Cross Country

Coach Miller's 2012 Thoughts and the Most Wanted

June 22, 2012

While will we still have more runners join the team as the summer progresses we have a pretty good idea of what our team will look like. There are still good runners out there, though, so don't stop trying to get your friends to join.

With the way things stand right now we still have a little work to do. By Coach Miller's calculations it looks like the girls are looking at a potential top 6 finish at State. This early in the summer nothing is guaranteed, and that top 6 could go anywhere from 1st place at State to not making State so don't take it too seriously right now. At this point we need to make sure everyone works hard during the summer and during the season to try to make our way into the top 4 and earn a trophy. There are also a few fast girls still out there so keep up with that recruiting.

The boys side is a little tougher to determine because of the change to a 3-class sytem, but our goal right now should be to make State again and go from there. There is A LOT of recruiting that can be done on the guys' side, especially with 7th grade boys, so get out there and get some more boys to come out for the team.

The lists below are in order based on mile times in PE. If you know someone on the list talk to them to see if they would be interested in joining. If they are in a fall sport that conflicts with cross country (8th grade football, 8th grade cheerleading, volleyball, and boys' soccer) then post here so we know to cross them off the list. If they aren't in a sport during the fall do everything you can to get them out. Your recruiting is one of the things that helps make our team better so keep it up! Recruiting enough runners could earn you the "Recruiter of the Year" award at the end of the season.

Meredith can turn in her registration on the first day of practice, which is Monday. And I'm not sure what you mean by asking if new joiners have to run. Obviously, running is a big part of cross country, but we gradually build up mileage for our runners so you don't have to run 2 miles until you're ready.

User Comment anonymous on July 24, 2012

what is xc and do new joiners have to run in it?

User Comment anonymous on July 24, 2012

i know meredith hoffman is doing it she would like to know where she can turn in registration

Thanks so much!!!!!!!!

User Comment Coach Miller on July 5, 2012

Don't get frustrated about people saying they are better than you. The great thing about cross country is how much you can improve even if you aren't in the top 7. Just keep focusing on your own goals and don't worry about making varsity. It's a good goal to be on varsity, but with how good our teams are that isn't a possibility for everyone. Just keep working hard and if you make varsity, great. If you don't just keep in mind how much you improved and the fact that you are a part of one of the best cross country teams in the state.

User Comment Anonymous on July 5, 2012

sorry i just got mad that i didnt go and all this high school crap about varsity is so much better and the facvt i wasnt allowed to go and how most people probably went. its not like i didnt want to go i did but i couldnt. i had to be at the parade for my brother early.

User Comment Coach Miller on July 4, 2012

You didn't have to come. We finished well before the parade started and the coaches had plenty of family time today. Glad you care so much about us spending time with our families, though. :-)

User Comment Anonymous on July 4, 2012

thats stupid!!!!!!!!!!!!!! what about the parade! yes running is important but its a summer camp! and family is wayyyy more important! if i were the coach i wouldnt care about theses kids wanting to run today, id care about my family and having fun and celebrating INDEPENDENCE! (get it? make up your own decison, independence)/ and going to the parade and not running. just for one day no one would die, im just glad im not the people who took away kids from family time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

User Comment Coach Miller on July 4, 2012

We do have Endurance Camp today.

User Comment Triston Robb on July 3, 2012

Does the high school have endurance camp tommorow?

User Comment jessica on July 3, 2012

thanxxx :)

User Comment Anonymous on July 3, 2012

Hey even if you dont make it, you tried your best. competitve cause of the girls who already have been tumblers and cheerleaders there whole life. or you could always make sideline an 8th grader.hope and faith leslie did last year! also, just practice with the team and ignore any bad comments you recieve. its what you want to do and nobody should mess with that. i hope you make it and we will miss you on the team. Good luck:)

User Comment Coach Miller on July 2, 2012

You could still practice with us and come to the weekday meets if you wanted to.

User Comment Anonymous on July 2, 2012

cuz cheer is fun

User Comment jessica on July 2, 2012

the tryouts that were in may were for the football cheer season... not the basketball cheer season which is the one im trying out for:) ive been like preparing for over a year. i hopes i makes its. hahas... lol. if i dont then i would have given up cross country for nothing. :(((

User Comment .................... on July 2, 2012

Jessica i love! and dont take this offensively but why cheer? good luck and im not supposed to talk bad about things people like. also in order to do cheer, you had to try out in may and make the team. theres no more try outs and the team is already set. theres no yytf. its one team. the only fall ACTIVITY!

User Comment jessica on July 2, 2012

yeah i know... but i also need a second tumbling class. my mom wont let me do cross country, two tumbling classes, and cheer. anyway, the tumbling class im already in is on saturdays at like nine. guess what else is on saturday? those big huge invites. :( i cant juggle both.

User Comment jessica on July 2, 2012

not volleyball.

User Comment Anonymous on July 1, 2012

its probably volleyball. cheer isnt a sport and just saying volleyball would need dedication more.

User Comment Coach Miller on July 1, 2012

Also, if it's cheerleading you are doing you could always do the competitive cheer season along with cross country since competitive cheer doesn't start until the winter.

User Comment Coach Miller on July 1, 2012

It just kind of surprised me. You were one of our top 10 runners last year and you already turned in a registration form.

User Comment jessica on July 1, 2012

yeah im serious. i chose a different sport that requires a lot of dedication. and so does cross country. you know... practices almost everyday and stuff. i couldnt do both. so... yeah really sorry. you probably dont even need me because i wasnt that good last season.

User Comment Coach Miller on June 30, 2012

Are you serious, Jessica? If that's the case, you're the only 7th grader who is still in Yorkville who won't be on the team again this year. What happened?

User Comment jessica on June 29, 2012

guess who isnt doing cross country anymore.... ;(

User Comment Freshman on June 27, 2012

the thing is its not a sport. its an activity. supreme court even said so. why does anybody care though? if somebody likes is good for them. what is they were telling you all the time wel xc isnt a sport. its a stupid...uh uh idk. if you like something you shouldnt be judging people on it. who cares if cheer isnt a sport. who cares if xc is. if you like it then do it. theres no difference.

User Comment jessica again :) on June 26, 2012

oh! And cheer is a sport. if u say it isnt then u OBVIOUSLY dont know what they do. cheerleaders dont just cheer for football players or whatever they cheer to get the crowd pumped up...? doesnt everyone know that? they dont just cheer for football they cheer for basketball and they compete... by the way miller i hope u arent mad but i might have to skip a lot of saturday practices because of tumbling for cheer my mom wont let me skip those classes...ill make up for it by running on sundays lol... um dont kill me. haha.

User Comment jessicaa :) on June 26, 2012

yeah i texted lindsay and its a definete no. she has volleyball :(

User Comment Coach Miller on June 26, 2012

High school cross country is still 2A, but track moved up to 3A last year. We will definitely be in 3A for middle school this year, which will probably be for schools with 434 students or more. Most of the good schools will be in 3A, but a handful might drop to 2A.

User Comment Anonymous on June 26, 2012

Is high in 3A??

User Comment Anonymous on June 26, 2012

Jenna Fosnacht is doing volleyball

User Comment Anonymous on June 26, 2012

When will the classes be set for cross country? Does this reflect the highschool change to 3A?

User Comment Coach Miller on June 26, 2012

Whenever you start out with "not to offend anyone" chances are you're going to offend someone. I know cheerleading is classified as an activity by IESA, but that doesn't mean we need to insult anyone who enjoys it.

User Comment Anonymous on June 25, 2012

Not to offend any1 but if some1 is doing cheer leading you should point out that cheer leading is not a real sport it is listed under "other activities" rIght next to chess team on the IESA website and basically they are just workIng their butts off just so that the football players work their butts off to impress them, I mean dance is one thing if you want it for the competition but if your entire activity is created to make an other activity work harder than why do it

User Comment Coach Miller on June 25, 2012

Would Madison consider doing cheerleading and xc? You can do that in 7th grade, but not 8th.

User Comment Anonymous on June 25, 2012

madison brusak does cheerleading

User Comment Anonymous on June 25, 2012

he did last year but who knows if hes playing it again. ask Brooke Jensen. Its her cousin

User Comment natalie on June 24, 2012

doesn't zach brosi play football?? i think he does...

User Comment jessica again :) on June 24, 2012

oh! and lindsay is doing volleyball. ill text her to make sure...

User Comment jessicaa :) on June 24, 2012

ummm i think kelsey cole told me she was moving. haha.... idk for sure though.

User Comment Coach Miller on June 24, 2012

Thanks for all the information everyone. For those of you who don't know for sure please try to get confirmation. I'd like to know for sure about Lindsay Loquercio, but I don't know everyone at camp with 135 runners so someone may have to point her out to me. Also, if Eddie Kilgore is planning on joining please have him turn in a registration form to the high school. We need to get new uniforms and I want to have a really good idea as to how many we need.

User Comment Anonymous on June 24, 2012

I think Eddie Kilgore is doing cross country.

User Comment Nicole on June 24, 2012

I wanna see everyone at xc in august!!!!!!:)

User Comment Anonymous on June 24, 2012

User Comment Anonymous on June 24, 2012

User Comment Anonymous on June 24, 2012

User Comment Anonymous on June 24, 2012

User Comment jacob on June 24, 2012

Avery is doing football, i already tried to get him to join but hes probably playing for plaino again this year

User Comment Anonymous on June 23, 2012

okay kelsi b is trying out for volleyball, and she said if she doesnt make it she is doing cross country. and mischara's (#6) last name is palmer, not parker.

User Comment Anonymous on June 23, 2012

for the 8th grade girls Kelsi #3 does cheerleading, Hannah #4 does dance and its at a different place and it starts right after school, like 3) and Amanda does Volleyball. for the 8th grade boys bailey #3 does soccer and Nick #5 does soccer. (they did it last year)

User Comment anonymous on June 23, 2012
