Yorkville HS at State
November 7, 2009
Anyone who makes the trip down to the IHSA State Cross Country Meet at Detweiller Park in Peoria can't help but enjoy the atmosphere, especially with the great weather for this year's meet. The course is packed with spectators who run back and forth across the course to see some of the best athletes in the state running to find out who has the most guts. Yorkville's high school team has participated in the meet for the past three years and they didn't disappoint this year.
The boy's team had to fight hard just to make it to State, and they finished in 13th place with a young team. Jake Callahan (So) finished in 35th place with a time of 15:50 followed by Scott King (Jr) in 71st at 16:16, Eric Baker (Fr) in 85th at 16:26, Carl Bomba (Jr) in 95th at 16:36, YMS XC alum Zak Arcara (Fr) in 118th at 16:58, Chris Kellogg (So) in 127th at 17:06, and Danny Fish (Sr) in 150th at 17:46. Congratulations to the boys on a great race!
The girl's team took home some pretty heavy hardware on Saturday coming home with the 2nd place trophy for Class 2A and some All-State honors. They missed winning the meet by only 6 points but with their top 5 runners all coming back next year they should be in contention again. Ali Hester (So) and Esther Bell (So) earned All-State honors by finishing 5th and 18th, respectively, with times of 17:56 and 18:31. Ashley Leonetti (So) finished in 37th with a time of 19:11, Breezy Stuepfert (Fr) in 39th at 19:12, Casey Kramer (Fr) in 83rd at 19:55, Madi Hester (Sr) in 119th at 20:49, and Karen Greyer at 126th in 20:55. Congratulations to the Lady Foxes for bringing home a trophy bigger than some of our runners on the middle school team!
