Tiger Trails Results
September 25, 2016
To follow up on our great showing at the Troy Invite by winning the overall meet award for the first time, the Yorkville Middle School cross country team spent the next weekend winning the Tiger Trails Invite overall award for the first time. The invitational held at Thompson Junior High in Oswego is much smaller than the Troy Invite, but it doesn't diminish the accomplishments of Yorkville's runners.
7th Grade Girls
The seventh grade girls once again finished in second place to Herget from Aurora. Herget won 28-37 with all five of their scorers in the top ten. Yorkville's girls had five scorers in the top 15, though, with Brooke O'Carroll (2nd, 12:38), Sydney Peterson (3rd, 12:43), and Ava Glenn (6th, 12:57) earning medals for finishing in the top ten. In addition, Brooke broke a team record for the Tiger Trails course that was set by teammate Helena Kleronomos last year. Nuria Pugh (12th, 13:07) and Shannon Burke (14th, 13:18) were the other scorers for the team while Anna Hunter (19th, 13:27) and Maggie Hunter (29th, 13:59) were in the team's top seven on the two-mile course.
7th Grade Boys
The seventh grade boys squeaked by Herget with a 32-43 victory. Jaydon Harvey once again led the team with a second place finish in 11:54. All five scorers for the team made the medal stand with Jack Stillmunkes (4th, 11:58), Nick Sinopoli (7th, 12:08), Josiah Gulbro (9th, 12:10), and Nathan Summers (10th, 12:16) finishing in the top ten. Jonathan Aguado (12th, 12:19) and Justin Jakstys (13th, 12:20) weren't far away from finishing with medals.
8th Grade Girls
Helena Kleronomos won the race at Tiger Trails one week after winning at the Troy Invite. Her time of 11:25 was not only a school record for an eighth grade girl, but also the fastest time run by a girl in school history. Sara Klemm's time of 11:47 was the sixth-fastest time in school history, and was good enough for third place. Hailey Simmons also broke 12 minutes with her fourth-place finish in 11:56. Nikki Vergara (6th, 12:19) also earned a medal to help lead the girls to a 24-69 victory over Herget. Ana Penland (12th, 12:57) was the fifth runner and final scorer for the team while Jinnaea Richardson (16th, 13:11) and Tayhler Srachta (17th, 13:15) were the sixth and seventh runners.
8th Grade Boys
The eighth grade boys once again turned in a dominating performance with a 23-91 victory over Oswego Plank. Ivan Westcott and Cade Grimaldi finished 1-2 in the race, with Ivan breaking a six-year old Tiger Trails team record and also running the fastest two-mile time ever for the team with a time of 10:42. Cade's time of 11:00 was nearly a minute faster than he ran the race last season. A total of sixth eighth grade boys from Yorkville made the medal stand with Austin Popplewell (5th, 11:22), Jackson Edwards (7th, 11:26), Matthew Angerame (9th, 11:30), and Colin Kachlic (10th, 11:30) finishing in the top ten along with Ivan and Cade. Three other runners were knocking on the door of the top ten as Jack Brucher (11:31), Danny Harker (11:31), and Tyler Deutsch (11:32) finished in 11th, 12th, and 13th.
