Two Trophies for Yorkville High School
November 4, 2012
This year the high school cross country team decided one trophy wasn't enough as both the boys and the girls teams came away with a trophy from the IHSA Cross Country State Championships. This was the first time in school history that both teams have won a trophy in the same year.
For the boys, their 3rd place finish was their first trophy since the 1987 season. After finishing in the top 10 the last two years the boys finally broke through led by All-State performances by the Hoffert twins. Jake Hoffert finished in 12th place with a time of 14:48 while his brother Luke finished in 15th in 14:51. Jake and Luke are former YMS runners and are only sophomores so they should be leading the team for a few more years. Following Luke was another YMS alum, Zak Arcara, who was on our first cross country team at YMS. Zak finished in 30th place with a time of 15:13. Zak was followed by fellow seniors Eric Baker (51st, 15:23) and Nick Harrison 53rd, 15:24) who rounded out the top 5 for the team giving the Foxes a point total of 129. This was 53 points ahead of the 4th place finisher and only 3 points behind Belvidere North in 2nd place. The other two runners for Yorkville were also former YMS runners. Junior Nolan Tweedy ran at our first IESA Sectional race in which the boys finished 6th. At IHSA State he finished in 73rd place with a time of 15:36. Shawn O'Malley finished his high school career with a time of 15:39, which was good enough for 76th place in the state. Congratulations to the boys team!
The girls finished their season with back-to-back State Championships. This year's performance was even stronger than last year's as the girls score was half the score of the 2nd place team. Freshman Skyler Bollinger led the way with her 5th place run in 17:11. She was followed by fellow freshman Summer Pierson in 8th place in a time of 17:31. Senior Casey Kramer turned in her second straight All-State performance with her 11th place finish in 17:34. Erin Reynolds also turned in an All-State performance. The freshman, and former YMS runner, ran 17:54, which was good enough for 24th place. Junior Kelsey Leedy rounded out the top 5 for the team and just missing All-State in 28th place with a time of 18:03. Former YMS runner Sydney Beach finished in 59th place as a freshman with a time of 18:29. Finally, Lindsay Foster finished her high school cross country season with a time of 19:03 to finish 112th. Congratulation to the girls team!

Who is running the Chili Chase---go TEAM
Coach Miller on November 12, 2012
Yeah, I was wrong about that. Something Coach Draper said made me think the top 6 moved on but it is just the top 2. That being said, 8th place is pretty good for their first year in the Nike series.

ok no top 2 teams move on. yorkville was 8th. they were close to 9 and 10 but far away from 7th. then top 5 indivuals that particpicated indivually not with a team, move on. so yorkville could on move on as a team. only top 2 or top 4 , not top 6.
Coach Miller on November 11, 2012
No full results yet, but we know they didn't move on to Nationals (top 6 teams move on, I believe). Skyler finished 20th, though.
