Optional Runs July 23, July 25, July 27
July 7, 2012
After talking with the IESA we found out we are allowed to hold optional runs during the week between Endurance Camp and the start of practice on July 30. Because of this we have decided to hold optional runs on Monday, July 23, Wednesday, July 25, and Friday, July 27. All three of these runs will take place at the high school at 7:30am. At least one of the coaches will be present to supervise the runs. While no one has to show up we highly recommend it since a week without running could cause you to lose a lot of the endurance you built up during Endurance Camp.
Coach Miller on July 25, 2012
You can still come for the optional runs if you weren't at Endurance Camp. Our last one is on Friday at 7:30am at the YHS track.

Coach Miller on July 15, 2012
The high school captains will hold practices between Endurance Camp and the official start of practice.

cause thats pretty stupid to not have something else and its hard to run by yourself you dont have anybody to motivate you or you get lost easierly
Anonymous on July 15, 2012
are the high schoolers allowed to run with you guys or do they have something else they are doing?

hi
Coach Miller on July 12, 2012
Dont worry, Triston. I know not everyone can make these runs. If you can run during your vacation try to, though.
Triston Robb on July 12, 2012
Sorry Coach Miller I can't make these practices because I will be in Michigan for vaction.
Coach Miller on July 11, 2012
It's not the distance that matters, it's the pace. If you are currently running around 12 minutes, cross country practice should be enough to get you close to 11. The goal of the summer is to get a lot of miles in to build your endurance. Once practice starts we will begin to focus more on pace.

How long/fast should we be running outside of endurance camp if we want to make 11 by the end of season if we have a 12 or so 2mile curently
Darien on July 10, 2012
Not yet i havent had time yet. But so far i have gotten near 11:30 buti think by the end of summer i should be around 11.
Coach Miller on July 10, 2012
There is no time to hit like there is in track. Our guys should be shooting for 11:30 to make State. 11:00 is what we want to average in order to get a trophy at state. Those times could be totally different this year, though, with the new three class system. They shouldn't get any faster, though, so just focus on those times and you should be fine. BTW, did you turn in your registration form yet?
Darien on July 10, 2012
Can someone tell me what state time is for 8th grade cross country? Because i don't know what it is.
Coach Miller on July 9, 2012
Very good explanation. You don't lose EVERYTHING, but you certainly won't be in the same shape you were before taking a week off.
Anonymous on July 9, 2012
hey you wont lose ALL of your endurance. its just like if you were able to run 5miles with out having to breathe heavily or having your legs completely sore and tired, and you took a week off, that just might change. you'll hvae to get use to running the 5 miles again. its not like you ll have to start training at a mile again. if you were a constant 5mile runner, you might get tired running that and would have to rn 3-4 to train again
Jacob on July 8, 2012
That last sentence is scary considering I haven't ran in a week...
