Yorkville Middle School Cross Country

It's Hot!

August 1, 2011

What a great group we had at our first practice! Everyone did a great job, especially given how hot and humid it was when we finally started running at 10. I was going to talk about how to get some relief from the heat on Wednesday, but I may as well cover it now.

Make sure you drink water hourly throughout the day and definitely bring your own water to practice. Seek shade wherever you can and don't run too hard on days where it gets as hot as it did today, especially this early in the season. Make sure you wear loose clothing and avoid dark colors. You should also check out a post Coach Draper made on the high school team's website here. It talks about spotting heat-related illnesses.

On an unrelated note, if anyone needs to set up a car pool please contact me at demiller@yorkville.k12.il.us and I will help set something up with someone who lives near you.

No, they would not be able to train with the YMS team. It would violate IHSA rules.

I'd have to say no on that. I'm not as familiar with the IHSA rules as I am with the IESA rules and I don't want to do anything that could get your cousin suspended from cross country.

But if they are older and run with a different school/county is that ok?

User Comment Coach Miller on August 2, 2011

If they run for the Yorkville High School team they can't run with us since I am a coach on the track team.
