Hi, fans of YMS cross country. Endurance Camp is almost over and we will be starting the cross country season on Monday, August 1. We are looking for big things from our runners this season after our first run in the State meet last season. If you haven't already turned in forms to Coach Miller or Coach Martin make sure you bring them on the first day of practice. You will need a $65 activity fee, registration form, physical, and insurance waiver. Also, if anyone is interested in being a captain they will need to fill out a captain application. We generally have a lot of 8th grade applicants, but not as many from 7th graders so if you're interested in being a leader on the team fill out an application.
Finally, there will be a one week gap between Endurance Camp and the start of the cross country season. This didn't happen last year and the coaches are not allowed to run with the athletes outside of the season unless it is during a summer camp. Since we don't want everyone to lose all the hard work they put into Endurance Camp we want to know if there are any parent volunteers who could run with some of our athletes during the week of July 25. While we would like to set up 3 days for the kids to run you can reply even if you can only help out one day. We do not want kids running on their own so if we cannot get volunteers then we will come up with something else for everyone to stay in shape during the in-between week. Thanks for your support!

The school said we couldn't officially start until the 11th, but we can have unofficial practices starting the 1st. Starting on the 11th would be way too late since our first meet is less than a week and a half after that. We won't penalize anyone for missing the first two weeks, but our serious runners should definitely be at practice starting the 1st.

I'm confused. On the registration for school, it says cross country starts August 11th.

They wouldn't hold camp if it were dangerous. It may be uncomfortable inside, but it is by no means dangerous to run in the AC. Coach Draper and Muth would not put anyone in a dangerous situation. If you aren't comfortable with running inside it is your choice to not come. Don't put yourself in a situation you're uncomfortable with.

Please talk to Coach Muth/Coach Draper and tell them to cancel track camp! The weather even says its dangerous to be outside and my older sibling has work-out in the morning and said the inside of the school was NO better!

Just our of curiousity, are they seriously going to have track camp today? Cause its already like 97* , but the humidity is like 110*. And we have like bunches of warnings and watches of severe heat.

I was looking at the meets we have this season and was wondering about the troy invite, when it says top 10 grade and gender does it mean top ten 7th grade girls, eight grade girls, seventh grade boys, eight grade boys? Which means that 40 runners would be going, or does it mean top 10 per gender, so 20 would be going?

It's okay to run on your own as long as you are safe and your parents are okay with it. We just don't want a big group running without any supervision.
